24 Weeks

Holy cow, only 12 weeks to go until I’m full term. How is that possible?  Belly update…

It’s getting so big!

Weight Gain to Date: According to the doctor’s scale…12 lbs on the dot.  That means I gained the recommended 1 lb/week between my 20 and 24 week appointments. As hard as it is to weigh more than I have in years, I’m pretty happy with how it’s going so far. I just need to repeat to myself, I am not fat, I am growing a baby.

Belly Button in or out: In but it’s trying so hard to pop out. Still standing by my assessment a few weeks ago that I have at least a few more weeks until it’s even with my belly.

Baby Size: Peanut is still the size of a papaya but gained about 8 ounces since the 22nd week. She’s now just over a pound and almost a foot long. Her heart was beating strong at 150 beats/minute yesterday.

New Developments: Her lungs are developing “branches” of the respiratory “tree” as well as cells that produce surfactant, a substance that will help her air sacs inflate once she hits the outside world.

Cravings: Lemonade. It’s so sweet, soury and delicious!  Also, chips because I can’t eat them and cheese. Definitely cheese.

Food aversions: Tofu continues to be the big one. Chicken in general kind of turns me off, but I can eat it when it’s in something, not so much as a main dish.  Not digging the green monster smoothies I used to love either.

Feeling: Tired. I’ve been so tired lately. I’m not sure if it’s sleep issues or just me still trying to get over my cold.  I’m also noticing after a workout my recovery time is longer, but that won’t stop me from hitting the gym. I’m just toning down the length and intensity of my workouts.

Sleep: Waking up at least once a night to go to the bathroom. I’ve also been super hot when I’m sleeping. I think I could heat our entire house with my body.

Movement: All the time!  Now when Peanut moves, I feel her entire body move. I think she’s trying to get my uterus to grow a little faster so that she has more room in there.  Her favorite times to kick, right at bedtime, around 3 am and again just after 5 am.

Maternity Clothes: Digging them. I scored during the Gap Give and Get event last weekend. I got some cute maternity t-shirts, a black dress for my upcoming trade show, one more long sleeved shirt for the freezer I call an office and a cute sleeveless blouse. While I was at it, I also picked up some cute little pants on clearance for Peanut.

What I miss: Wardrobe options, hollandaise sauce (not that I really ever ate it, but I miss having the option), uninterrupted sleep (I better get used to that).

What I love about pregnancy: People being impressed that I workout, that’s a first. I understand being impressed when people do great athletic feats, but just working out, come on.  Still not sick of people telling me I look cute. Oh and love not feeling the need to justify why I eat so much or feel the need to suck in my belly after said pig-out.
