Why hello third trimester. How did you get here so fast? I absolutely cannot believe that there are only 12 weeks until my due date. My nesting instinct is kicking in and I’m ready to move full speed ahead on getting really prepared for our Peanut’s arrival.
Weight Gain to Date: After traveling for 9 days, I was totally dreading my weigh in. As if eating all my meals out wasn’t enough to pack on the pounds, I have worked out like 4 times in the past week and a half. I’ve been so crazy busy it just hasn’t been happening. So here we are. Total weight gain to date…18 lbs. The midwife said I’m right on track, but it was another one of those, yikes that’s 6 lbs in 4 weeks. Hopefully it will slow down back to normal rates over the next few weeks.
Belly Button in or out: Barely an innie, but an innie nonetheless.
Baby Size: Peanut is still the size of an eggplant but has grown a lot! She weighs about two and a quarter pounds and measures almost 15 inches from the top of her head to her heels. When measuring my belly at my appointment, we determined that she is in fact head down, just as I suspected. Hopefully she’ll stay that way.
New Developments: She can blink her eyes, which now sport lashes. With her eyesight developing, she may be able to see the light that filters in through my belly. She’s also developing billions of neurons in her brain and adding more body fat in preparation for life in the outside world.
Cravings: Hot sauce. I pretty much want it on everything.
Food aversions: No big changes here but I’ve found the secret to getting myself to eat more veggies…dip. Yes, dip makes everything better. I whipped up some french onion dip using 2% Fage on Sunday night. This week I’ve been downing carrots, cucumbers, and peppers either with the dip or in sandwich form. I’ve been staying away from broccoli for everyone elses sake…you’re welcome.
Feeling: Good but worn out. After more than a week of traveling in three different time zones, my body has some readjusting to do. This week I’m working hard to get back to my normal sleep schedule as well as my normal eating habits and working out schedules. I also passed my glucose test with flying colors which is great because Josh brought home a big black and white cookie from Boston…mmmm.
Sleep: I’ve actually been sleeping pretty well lately. I think it’s because I’ve been so tired. Peanut is hanging out up by my rib cage which is giving my bladder a break, thank you Peanut!
Movement: Gone are the days of tiny little movements. These days I’m feeling her move her whole body. As I lay in bed I can watch my stomach morph into odd shapes. It’s almost like watching waves move. I’m also feeling her hiccup about once a day.
Maternity Clothes: Of course. I can still fit into a few pre-pregnancy skirts and dresses but probably not for long. Maybe when Peanut drops a bit lower I’ll get back to the dresses that are too restricting in the chest region right now.
What I miss: I’m not really missing anything right now. Oh except for the space that used to allow the light of day to peak through my thighs. I figure if slightly larger thighs are the worst thing I can complain about at the start of the third trimester I’m in a good place.
What I love about pregnancy: How nice people are. Seriously, it’s amazing. While I was traveling people let me move ahead of them in just about any line I was in, from food to flight check-in. That was awesome! I also have had more people than ever holding doors and asking me if they can help me carry anything, especially the two suitcases I brought home from my trip. The feelings of excitement and anticipation as our due date nears. I’m so excited to meet the little one we created.
