Warm Weather Livin’

Another late post.

We got a foot of snow at our house the Thursday before Christmas. On Monday we were enjoying 75 degree weather in sunny Southern California. Ah.

Our trip started in Moorpark with my mom, stepdad, brother and sister. We were anxious to enjoy the lovely weather and I needed some exercise so strapped Ella into her travel stroller and headed out for a walk.

First time in a swing:

First time down the slide which was more fun for me than it was for her.:

The next morning we headed to China Town in LA to eat at Phillippe’s, Home of the Original French Dip. We met my Aunt Jan, Uncle Paymen and cousins Yasi and Cameron.

After lunch we strolled around Old Town Pasadena, making a stop at 21 Choices, one of my favorite places as a child.  That evening Mike cooked up a feast for us, Ella tried to get in on it but I told her she needed teeth before she had steak, much to her dismay.

The next morning we headed to Palm Springs to meet my dad’s side of the family. We drove right through lunchtime which meant a stop at In-N-Out.

It was greasy and delicious. I ate it twice while we were there and I don’t feel guilty about it one bit. It was amazing both times.

We had the entire Walker crew there with the except of my Uncle John and two cousins. I didn’t take nearly enough pictures while we were there, all together. Fail.

I did don a bikini, after an awesome 4 mile run. I was a little nervous when I arrived at the pool to actually take off my cover, but I did it and it was fine. My grandma even told me I was looking good, which was awesome to hear. I may have blinded everyone at the pool with my pale pale skin, but my first time in a bikini post-baby is now done. My stepmom snapped some pics, but instead I’m going to show you this bathing beauty who loved the pool.

Maybe they’ll make an appearance another time.

Ella could only hang at the pool so long, so the next day we decided to go for a hike. We hiked a little desert oasis in Indian Canyon National Park.

The next day we packed ourselves back up and headed back to Moorpark for a New Year’s celebration.

We had a feast! I was much too busy eating to take pictures, but we had:

Fried Chicken-OMG, mouth watering

Hoppin’ John

Collard Greens and Bean Soup

Mashed Potatoes

Southern Green Beans

Bourban Beef Short Ribs

Cornbread

If that wasn’t enough, there was cherry cobbler with homemade whipped cream and bread pudding with a buttered rum sauce. I ate way too much.

Ella met her cousin Bryan for the first time. She scared the crap out of him when she grabbed him and shrieked with excitment. He started bawling.

After chewing on his hand and he chewing on hers, they were cool. It’s kind of crazy having a baby the same age as my uncle, but then again he is only 4 years older than me.

I am proud to say I made it to midnight, but barely. I was so tired and watching Dick Clark was painful. At 12:15 am I was getting ready for bed because we I was up at 4:30 to get ready to head home.

I need a vacation from my vacation.
