Let the training commence

I had my first official half marathon training run tonight. Yeah!

I totally lucked out and Ella went to bed at 6:30 like a good girl which meant I was just in time for the rush at the gym. It’s almost February so I expect the crowd to start thining out soon. I patiently waited in line for my turn on a treadmill. Of course it happened to be next to the stinky guy. Thank goodness he was just a few minutes from wrapping up his run.

Tonight’s run was a 4×400 interval run. I started with a 5 minute warm-up at 10 min/mile pace.

1st 400-1:52 mins
2 min recover @10 min/mile
2nd 400-1:55 mins
2 min recover @10 min/mile
3rd Interval-1:52 mins
2 min recover @10 min/mile
4th Interval-1:55 mins
5 min cool down @ 10 min/miles

Total distace: 2.75 miles   Avg. Pace: 9:05 min/miles

It felt good and was over so fast. I walked for another 5 minutes or so to round out 3 miles. I’m breaking myself in easy this week. When I take on too much too fast I get discouraged when I really struggle. Getting discouraged early in a training cycle is never a good thing.

The rest of my week includes Cardio Sculpt, a 3 miles tempo run and a 5 mile ‘long’ run plus some cross-training in there somewhere.
