22 Weeks – Take Two

The belly is coming and it’s staying low. I don’t think this picture does it justice at all. Then again, morning it is at its smallest. By the evening, hello belly.

22 weeks

Weight Gain to Date: I stayed off the scale for two full weeks. It’s so tempting to get on it every day, but then I drive myself nuts. I’ve gained about 10 lbs. To be honest, I took hitting the double digits hard this morning. I know it is in the healthy range, but I immediately started thinking about all the stuff I shouldn’t have eaten in the past few weeks, a cookie from Panera, birthday cake, a hot dog at the baseball game, etc. I need to shut that down, shut it down immediately.

Belly Button in or out: Still in. It did pop out momentarily when Sprout moved under it the other day.

Baby Size: Sprout is now the size of a papaya. He is about 11 inches long and weighs almost 1 pound. At this point everything is in the right place and he just needs to keep getting bigger. He’s measuring on the small side, just like Ella. Apparently we make smallish babies.

New Developments: Sprout’s lips, eyelids, and eyebrows are becoming more distinct, and he’s even developing tiny tooth buds beneath his gums. Side note, had a dream that he was born with teeth after reading this earlier in the week. Scary. His eyes have formed, but his irises (the colored part of the eye) still lack pigment.

Cravings: Oddly enough, no cravings to report in the past few weeks. I still like all the tomato based foods, but I haven’t had to have anything in particular. Oh wait, I did have that hot dog at the baseball game. I know you’re not really supposed to eat them ever, let alone when pregnant, but it sounded and tasted so good.

Food aversions: Nothing much, thank goodness. Unless is smells bad, I’m ok eating all the things I ate pre-pregnancy.

Feeling: Morning sickness is back. At first I thought my nausea was from the reintroduction of sweets, but I’ve been pretty in control since Easter. After more than a week of daily nausea, I decided its morning sickness. Not ok with me at all. The only thing that helps is eating and then eating some more, hence a jump in my gaining.

Sleep: I have lost the ability to sleep through the night. I can’t even blame it on kicks or having to pee. I literally wake up every single night between 2 and 3 am. I’m up for an average of 45 minutes to an hour each night. Of course nothing makes me grumpier than not being able to sleep. When I’m really having a hard time going back, I purposefully get overdramatic in my tossing and turning so that I jostle Josh enough to wake him. Misery loves company right? Most of the time it doesn’t work.

Movement: Movements are getting stronger every day. This little one seems to sleep a lot more than his sister did at this stage. Maybe that means he’ll be a good sleeper when he’s born…let me dream. He greets me with a good morning stretch every morning at 5 as I’m getting myself out of bed. Mid-afternoon and from about 7-9pm are his most active times. I’m actually seeing movements now which are fun to watch.

Gender: A little boy! Yeay! So excited we’ll have a girl and a boy. I bought a few little outfits when I stopped at Babies R’ Us this week. I just couldn’t help myself.

Maternity Clothes: I finally dragged my big bin of maternity clothes up from the basement last weekend and washed all of them. I’m still wearing some regular clothes including the jeans in the picture above, but packed a lot away in that same bin just so they don’t take up room in our closet and dresser. It was really kind of sad. I’m definitely going to need to go buy more maternity clothes because a lot of them are winter wear.

Running: Happy to report I’m still running. I decided not to do that half marathon last weekend because the urgency at which I will need to go to the bathroom is totally unpredictable right now. I also think I burnt my body out doing that 11 miles two weeks ago. The longest run I’ve done since is 7 miles. I think my body is trying to tell me it’s time to cut back on those longer distance runs. I have still managed 20-21 miles/week for the past two weeks.
