30 Weeks – Take Two

Well, I’ve made it ¾ of the way. 30 down, 10 to go…or maybe 12. For some reason I have a feeling this one is going to stay in for a few days past our due date. I’m thinking maybe he’ll come the week of August 19th. It would be fun if he were born on August 3. Then we’d have a birthday on the 3rd day of every summer month – me on June 3, Ella on July 3 and him on August 3.

I apologize for the poor quality of this picture. We had to use my phone this morning and apparently it sucks indoors these days.

30 weeks

I also just realized I am wearing the same shirt that I wore in my 28 week picture. I really need to do some laundry.

Weight Gain to Date: 17 lbs on the dot. Glad I’m keeping with my trend of one pound per week gain.

Belly Button in or out: I’m calling it, at 30 weeks I have an outie. It really sticks out when I cough.

Baby Size:  Sprout is about 17 inches from head to toe and weigh about 3 pounds give or take a few ounces.  His head and body are now proportioned like a newborn’s. He must have some long legs because that poor little guy seems even more cramped in there than Ella did.

New Developments:  He is plumping up and starting to control his own body temperature. As his skin smooths out with that added fat, the brain just keeps getting more wrinkled. All those grooves and indentations increase surface area, meaning more room for that oh-so-essential brain tissue.  His eyebrows and eyelashes are fully developed, and hair on his head is getting thicker.  I hope he has long eyelashes like Ella and Josh!

Cravings:  Nothing. Really, nothing sounds good lately. It may be because I’ve been sick for almost two weeks.

Food aversions: Not much to report here either. I think my taste buds have died recently.

Feeling: I was feeling good, until this week. While I was in Chicago I started feeling a little under the weather. By Sunday I was starting to cough and by Monday night I was having such severe coughing attacks I was almost throwing up. Josh finally made me go to the doctor on Wednesday…pertussis. Yes, the dreaded pertussis, even though I’ve been vaccinated. Awesome. They didn’t do the swab test since I was already gagging constantly, but were pretty confident that is what is causing the cough. I’m on antibiotics now that are starting to help but I still feel crummy. Luckily Josh and Ella are both fine.

Sleep: Thanks to the above mentioned coughing fits I’ve been sleeping only a few hours a night. Totally illness related and not pregnancy related except for last night. After a really bad coughing fit I started having some contractions that were pretty painful. They were not consistent and stopped after about 15 minutes, so I was able to finally sleep for the last two hours before my alarm went off.

Movement: Nearly constant movement which makes me wonder if he’s ever going to sleep once he’s born. He still primarily hangs out on my right side, but most of the movements shift my entire belly. He has also moved down a bit. I’m feeling movements really low.

Maternity Clothes: Some of the shirts I was wearing early on are starting to get tight. I may have to get just a few more pieces to hold me over. I definitely want to get a new outfit for the family/maternity photos we’re taking next month.

Running: Still going, though I haven’t run this week for obvious reasons. I had three fairly decent runs last week while I was in Chicago for a conference. I’ve decided that run/walk intervals are my friend now.  The length of the intervals varies from day to day. On a good day it is a 10/1 interval, on the bad days it is 5/1 interval.

Name: I think we’re stuck in a vicious cycle of indecision. Josh threw out another suggestion this week but I just can’t get on board with it. I’m no closer to convincing him to like my top choice and we’re both lukewarm about the other ones. We did have one we agreed on as a top contender, but we’re starting to see it in advertisements and it seems to be a new trendy name…definite turn-off.

  1. A much belated happy birthday! You looked fab in your previous post. I hope you feel better soon and can enjoy this nice weather Indiana is having. Because you are obviously going to come here to run.

  2. You look great! Feel better soon!

August 3 would be fun! In my family all the cousins were born on the 19th (April, November, and August) until my most recent niece came on the 11th. So now we’re shooting for the 11th (only 3 days overdue – I can do that!).
