Term, we’re full term. This means that this baby boy could come any time now. I’m trying to enjoy my last few weeks of pregnancy since this is the last time I plan to be pregnant. The last few weeks of pregnancy, also mean the last few weeks as a family of three. Eek. Trying to soak in that time as well.
Weight Gain to Date: I’m so over weighing myself. I’m having an internal battle of wanting to control unnecessary excessive weight gain in these last few weeks, and not giving two shits about how much I gain because it’s only a few more weeks. That being said, when I stepped on the scale this morning I’d gained another 1.8 lbs. Total gain at this point is just under 27 lbs. C’est la vie.
Belly Button in or out: Totally an outie again. It really does look like a nipple sticking out from my belly. Josh was totally laughing at me the other night because I had my shirt up and my belly is literally a shelf. There is a good two inch space between my boobs and where my belly protrudes at a 90 degree angle when I sit. It makes my belly button look like a nob to pull a drawer out.
Baby Size: Sprout is likely 18-21 inches long and weighs about 6.2 to 9.2 pounds. Ok, so there is not a chance he is already 9lbs. Holy huge baby, but babies could weigh that much at this point. I’m guessing he’s between 5-6 lbs this week. He’s gaining about 1/2 ounce each day.
New Developments: At this stage there are not a lot of new developmental milestones happening. Sprout is practicing all of the skills he’ll use outside the womb like blinking, swallowing, gripping, etc. He’s also still putting on some more fat to keep him warm once he emerges from my nice warm belly.
Cravings: Random things like hint of lime tortilla chips, pulled pork, and pineapple.
Food aversions: I don’t have anything one food that sounds gross, but I have mid-chew aversions constantly. The other night I was two bites into my steak when I had to stop. I’m a very big fan of meat and potatoes, so it is a very rare occasion when I turn down a steak.
Feeling: The massage I had over the weekend was just what I needed. I haven’t been as relaxed as I was since I had a massage called The Coma while we were on our honeymoon. I was so relaxed I had to pour myself into bed for a two hour nap. I felt much better after that. My back is a bit on the achy side still but that’s to be expected. I think that’s a combination of carrying Ella and my expanding belly. Overall I’m still feeling really good.
I’ve been experiencing a bit of swelling in the past week. My toes and fingers primarily. I’ve left my wedding rings at home this week because with the heat, it’s just uncomfortable to wear them.
Sleep: My body pillow is essential to getting sleep, as is the fan on high and our AC. I’ve been sleeping slightly better lately, but still waking up several times a night. In the past week or so, Ella has started waking up once a night. Josh always tries to go to her, but she wants mommy. So I go in and she just says she needs a hug. We have a nice long hug, some kisses and she goes right back down. She totally senses that this baby is going to be here soon.
Movement: Still moving like crazy. It’s primarily his hip and legs that he seems to move regularly. That little butt of his moves in such a way gets uncomfortable when I’m sitting in meetings.
Maternity Clothes: The further down he moves, the fewer clothes I have to wear that are comfortable. I’m living in dresses and skirts right now. I just can’t handle wearing pants right now, even capris are questionable most days.
Exercise: Doing what I can to stay active. I’ve hit the gym a few times this week and been walking as much as possible. Work is crazy busy right now as I prepare to leave which means longer days and some work at home in the evenings. It’s cutting into my exercise time. New this week, the morning after I exercise, or really every morning lately, my belly feels sore. Not the entire thing, but the under side, right towards the bottom of my uterus. I also have a contraction basically every time I stand up.
Name: We’re getting closer. We actually spent some time last night really talking about names again. Josh decided he’d feel better if we had a name before he was born. We’ll see if that happens.
Signs of Labor: I’ve been having a ton of Braxton-Hicks contractions, especially when exercising. Still having menstrual-like cramps as well, though not as regularly as last week. Sprout is in ideal position and I was told at my appointment to have my hospital bag ready to go because he could come any day. I’m hoping he staying in there for another week to two weeks.
