It’s been six weeks since Anderson was born. I’ve had my six week check up and been given the green light to start resuming normal exercise. That green light couldn’t come soon enough.
Though I initially started dropping weight quickly, I haven’t lost a single pound more than I had at the two week postpartum point. I’m still stuck with about 12 pounds to lose. I’ve lost about seven inches off my waist with five more to go. I feel like my waist has narrowed, but the weight is sticking around. I’m not going to lie, I’m feeling uncomfortable in my own body. I’m self conscious of how I look right now, especially when I sit down and my stretched out skin around my middle bulges out. It’s silly and pure vanity but I want to be back to my old body.
This week, after officially hitting the six week mark, I’m being more conscious of what I’m eating. After all, food can make just as big or bigger or a difference in weight loss as exercise. I started tracking my food with MyFitnessPal again. It’s really helpful so far at controlling my urge to grab convenient foods like pita chips, graham crackers and other cabinet staples. I’m aiming to get at least 1800 calories/day to make sure I’m eating enough to maintain my milk supply.
I ‘m also trying to get in some form of exercise every day. Yesterday I got through most of Jillian Michaels No More Trouble Zones before Anderson woke up. Tonight the goal is to get in a three mile run around the neighborhood. I’m fitting in exercise where I can as we figure out how to manage the evenings with both kids needing us at the same time. Divide and conquer would be awesome, but Ella wants me to herself for bedtime and of course, that’s when Anderson needs some milk. We’ll figure it out.
In the coming weeks, I’d like to get in at least three runs a week to start building my base before training for the Colorado Half Marathon starts. I’m glad I’m already registered for a race to give me some additional motivation.
It would also be a bonus if I am comfortably back in my work clothes before I go back in November.
