Colorado Half Marathon Training: Week Two

“But mommy it’s too late to go running. It’s dark outside and you’ll be the only one.”

Ella had a point. Thursday night it was getting late and like most other nights, I’d likely be the only person running at 9pm. As she snuggled in closer to me, I momentarily thought of skipping my run. Luckily I have you all to hold me accountable. Plus, I really needed to get my run in. It’d bene a long week and I needed the calm that only running brings.

I gave Ella one more hug and kiss before lacing up my shoes and heading to the gym. As I opened the door to the garage, I heard her cry that she wanted me to cuddle a few more minutes. I heard Josh’s calming words to her, but it was particularly difficult to leave.  I think it was with me through my run which I struggled through.

The paces I’ve set for myself are challenging to say the least. Intervals have not been too bad but the tempo runs have been a struggle. Maybe it’s the heat in the gym or maybe I’m just a lot slower than I used to be and have a lot of work to do. Either way I’m keeping on and pushing myself to achieve my goals.

Monday – Rest
Tuesday – 3×1600: 6 miles @ 9 min/mile avg.
Wednesday – No More Trouble Zones
Thursday – 5 mile tempo @ 9:10 min/mile avg.
Friday – Rest
Saturday – Jumping jacks, push-ups and squats
Sunday – 10 mile long run (outside!) @ 8:58 min/mile avg.

This week is going to be a bit interesting. Josh has an engagement on Thursday evening so running is out. We’re going to be in the mountains from Friday night-Sunday late afternoon. I’m going to be mixing up my running days and see what happens.

  1. Tempos suck! I think they are just as mentally challenging (if not more) than some of the other quality workouts. Mad props for getting it done. Especially because I am in bed at 9 p.m. Keep on keeping on (because you keeping on makes me keep on).
